The Open Networking Foundation (ONF) has launched the industry’s first competition to create an open-source OpenFlow® Driver for a chance to win $50,000. If you are a software developer or development team, we challenge you to write the best, interoperable open-source implementation of the latest OpenFlow® standard.
Those interested should develop an OpenFlow® Driver that any developer can use in a controller or switch to maintain compatibility, providing easy transitions among different implementations of the OpenFlow® protocol. The winning entry of the competition will be provided under both Apache 2.0 and GPL dual-licenses for maximum compatibility with other open-source and commercial projects, and the winner will be awarded a grand prize of $50,000, along with some serious bragging rights.
This competition is open to all individuals and organizations worldwide, including non-profit and for-profit entities. Submissions will be judged by a panel of experts selected by ONF, based on compliance with the OpenFlow® specification standard, correctness of operation with a test harness, ease of integration into a controller, and completeness of the implementation (plus additional criteria). The contest is now open, and will close on Aug. 15, 2013 at 11:59 p.m. PDT.
