Thank. You.

Nov 25, 2015

As Thanksgiving approaches, Dan Pitt gives thanks to the contributing community and membership of ONF and takes a look back at the progress made in 2015.

ThanksgivingThanksgiving is upon us in the U.S., so the ONF team and I want to let our ONF community and members know how thankful we are for them. Every November, family and friends gather together in the United States to give thanks for the people and things that they are grateful for. This tradition has been carried out since the Pilgrims came to Plymouth Rock as a national holiday that transcends race, religion, and culture. It is a day to thank one another and actively appreciate what we have in our lives. And recent studies cited in last Sunday’s New York Times have shown that expressing gratefulness makes one grateful.

It is due to our membership and collaboration that ONF and the industry keep moving forward and progressing into the future. This past year ONF reached many exciting milestones such as the launch of our open source development community OpenSourceSDN.org. Since its launch, the community has released Atrium 2015/A and intent-based northbound interfaces Aspen and Boulder and is actively working on additional open source projects. In addition to our open source efforts, we also held our first industry AppFest, launched our SDN Skills Certification program with beta exam availability, demonstrated acclaimed proofs of concept for optical and wireless transport SDN, supported Layer 4-7 NFV services, and released the OpenFlow v1.3 Switch Certification. All of these accomplishments would not have been possible without the hard work and support of our community.

It has been a great year of progress not just for ONF but also for the SDN industry and our many cherished partners. We are continuously seeing progress and innovation in developing and deploying SDN and we look forward to continuing our efforts with the promotion and adoption of open SDN all over the world. We are thankful for all who have contributed to our efforts and are excited for what lies ahead for SDN in the coming year. If it were not for our members and community contributors, this progress would not have been possible. I and my colleagues are personally thankful to each and every one of you for your dedication and collaboration!

To everyone celebrating – have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
