On October 30, 2012, ONF recognized eight outstanding contributors at the closing plenary on the Member Workday.
OUTSTANDING TECHNICAL CONTRIBUTOR
Uwe Dahlmann (Indiana University, under the Academic Associates program) received an Outstanding Technical Contributor award for his work in the Testing & Interoperability Working Group. Uwe has led the documentation of the conformance test cases and prepared the pilot phase of the testing. His contributions to the to PlugFests in general and to the OpenFlow® 1.2 test bed in particular helped assure their great success.
Thomas Dietz (NEC) received an Outstanding Technical Contributor award for his work in the Configuration & Management WG. Thomas brought his considerable expertise in network management to the delivering of OF-Config 1.1.1 by driving detailed descriptions and specifications of operations supported by the various elements. His work clarifying the Yang and XML specifications made them much more understandable and implementable in a manner that reduces interoperability problems and implementation ambiguities.
Colin Dixon (IBM) received an Outstanding Technical Contributor award for his work in the Forwarding Abstractions Working Group. Colin has been a thought leader and driver for the first round of Table Typing Patterns (TTPs). His contribution to the development of forwarding-plane models (FPMODS) and TTPs took particular account of their implementablity and market feasibility, helping ONF achieve its mission of fostering a vibrant market of excellent products and services.
Michael Orr (Marvell) received an Outstanding Technical Contributor award for his work in the Hybrid Working Group. Michael shared his experience implementing OpenFlow® on Marvell hardware with candid and valuable insights into real-world engineering tradeoffs that lent great insight into the WG’s work. He gets to the heart of technical issues and takes the time to explain the issues to all who wish to understand.
Sibylle Schaller (NEC) received an Outstanding Technical Contributor award for her work in the Testing & Interoperability Working Group. Sibylle has been an anchor of the conformance test suite development on the weekly calls and her test cases and deep knowledge have made her a respected source of knowledge and feedback to the rest of the Working Group.
OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP
Ted Hardie (Google) received an Outstanding Leadership award for his work in the Hybrid Working Group. Many of you probably recognize Ted for his contributions not only to Hybrid but to other WGs as well. He demonstrated key thought leadership in just about every area the Hybrid WG investigated and organizational leadership for the document architecture teams, where his knowledge, wisdom, and integrity benefited all.
Ron Milford (Indiana University, under the Academic Associates program) received an Outstanding Leadership award for his work in the Testing & Interoperability Working Group. Ron’s effective leadership brought great success to the March and October PlugFests, including planning, logistics, and documentation of the technical issues discovered.
OUTSTANDING INITIATIVE
Chris Janz (Ciena) received an Outstanding Initiative award for his work in the Market Education Committee. Chris has been a leading contributor on a number of major projects, including the White Paper, Carrier/WAN Solution Briefs, and SDN tutorials. He did an outstanding job as master of ceremonies for ONF’s SDN workshop in Darmstadt two weeks ago. Chris is known for doing anything and everything needed to produce outstanding results.
