25 ONF Vendor Member Companies to Lead Themed SDN Demonstrations in Data Center SDN; Carrier SDN and WAN Technologies; Campus SDN; and Testing and Validation
PALO ALTO, Calif., August 5, 2014 – The Open Networking Foundation (ONF), a non-profit organization dedicated to accelerating the adoption of open Software-Defined Networking (SDN), today announced that 25 ONF vendor member companies will participate in the organization’s first global SDN Solutions Showcase. In addition, each demonstrated solution will feature a major network operator, including both ONF operator members and others. Taking place at the Layer123 SDN and OpenFlow® World Congress in Düsseldorf, Germany from October 14 – 17, 2014, the ONF SDN Solutions Showcase will feature four categories of demonstrations that address a wide range of use cases including Data Center SDN; Carrier SDN and WAN Technologies; Campus SDN; and Testing and Validation.
“Organizations evaluating SDN need to see real-world use cases of how the technology is currently being implemented and the changes that it is bringing to companies of all types,” said Rick Bauer, technical program manager of the Open Networking Foundation. “Our SDN Solutions Showcase will bring some of the most compelling SDN and OpenFlow® applications together for easy evaluation. The aim is to not only demonstrate how SDN is being used today, but to offer ideas that operators can take back to their own networks.”
The ONF SDN Solutions showcase will demonstrate SDN technologies, products, and applications in the following four categories:
- Data Center SDN: Solutions that can be deployed to manage issues confronting data center managers including latency, manageability, multi-tenancy, ease of deployment, integration into existing frameworks, and more.
Participating ONF Member Companies: Brocade, Freescale, Kemp Technologies, Luxoft, NEC, SDN Essentials, UBIqube Solutions
- Carrier SDN and WAN Technologies: Demonstrations of how SDN is revolutionizing the way that global telecom carriers provide services such as easier deployment, greater flexibility, improved efficiency, and greater economies of scale.
Participating ONF Member Companies: ADVA Optical Networking, BISDN, Ceragon Networks, Ciena, Corsa Technology, Cyan, Ericsson, Freescale, Huawei, MRV Communications, Netronome, NoviFlow
- Campus SDN: Ways that companies are solving issues like device complexity, and network, Wi-Fi, and security management, among other challenges.
Participating ONF Member Companies: Blue Coat Systems, Freescale, Meru, Tallac Networks
- Testing and Validation: Testing services that SDN companies and their customers around the world are using today to validate their networks and ensure interoperability.
Participating ONF Member Companies: The Indiana Center for Network Translational Research and Education (InCNTRE), Ixia, Luxoft, Netronome, Spirent
The demonstrations at the showcase will be supported by additional ONF Member Company Infrastructure Sponsors who will assist in the design, architecture, equipment, and deployment of the showcase. The Infrastructure Sponsors include: ADVA Optical Networking, Broadcom, Ceragon Networks, Ixia, Freescale, Kemp Technologies, NEC, Tallac Networks, and UBIqube Solutions.
“We have a wide variety of demonstrations taking place at the showcase including vendors and their actual customers exhibiting real applications of SDN in use today,” said Marc Cohn, senior director of market development at Ciena, Open Networking Foundation market education committee chair, and co-producer of the SDN Solutions Showcase. “End users will get to see use case demonstrations in action and will be able to use the examples as a starting point for implementing SDN into their networks. The breadth of participation and interest from such a diverse group of member companies further demonstrates the strides that SDN is making toward mainstream adoption.”
As Europe’s premier network innovation conference, the SDN and OpenFlow® World Congress offers the opportunity to learn about recent developments, debate relevant issues, and assess the reality of SDN and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV). The event gathers more than 1,300 SDN, NFV, and OpenFlow® industry leaders, vendors, end users, and innovators each year. It is co-hosted by ONF with Deutsche Telekom as Host Operator.
