ONF to Discuss Benefits, Business Value, and Use Cases of Software-Defined Networking Deployment and the OpenFlow® Protocol
BEIJING – August 27, 2013
WHO: Open Networking Foundation (ONF) Executive Director Dan Pitt will present a keynote entitled “SDN Revolution: Transforming Next Generation Networks” at the Global Open Networking and SDN Conference 2013 in Beijing. He will also deliver a tutorial discussing global SDN development and trends.
Jim Wanderer, member of the ONF Board of Directors and director of engineering at Google, will be participating in three sessions at the event. This includes an elite panel on the development of the open network in China, a keynote titled “Why We Need SDN,” and a high-level talk on the global trend of SDN.
Additionally, ONF member company representatives Ron Milford, co-chair of ONF’s Testing and Interoperability Working Group and manager of the InCNTRE SDN Lab at Indiana University, and Dr. Justin Joubine Dustzadeh, ONF’s Migration Working Group Chair and CTO and vice president of Technology Strategy, Networks at Huawei, will deliver presentations addressing ONF’s progress in testing and interoperability and ONF’s recommendations for safely migrating from today’s legacy networks to OpenFlow-based SDN networks.
WHEN: Pitt’s tutorial will take place on Aug. 29 at 0900 China Standard Time (CST). Following the tutorial, Pitt will deliver a welcome address at 1330 CST and will begin his keynote presentation at 1420 CST.
Wanderer’s elite panel will take place on Aug. 29 at 1630 CST. His keynote is scheduled on Aug. 30 at 1330 CST, and his high-level talk will take place at 1550 CST on Aug. 30.
Milford’s session will take place on Aug. 29 at 1440 CST, and Dustzadeh’s session is scheduled on Aug. 30 at 1530 CST.
WHERE: The conference and all presentations will take place at the Beijing Presidential Hotel.
WHAT: During Pitt’s keynote presentation, he will discuss why SDN and the OpenFlow® protocol are transformative. He will address these revolutionary approaches to networking that bring software programmability to networks worldwide. Through sharing specific uses, he will help businesses see the importance and value in deploying and commercializing SDN. Pitt will also highlight ONF’s singular, leading role in helping enterprise, data center, and service provider networks adopt this innovative technology. The keynote will also highlight several topics of the movement of SDN and the OpenFlow® protocol, including China’s growing influence of SDN and ONF’s latest progress.
During his elite panel, as a member of the ONF Board of Directors, Wanderer will offer his insights to the work taking place in China to advance open networking. His high-level talk will approach the global perspectives and efforts in commercializing, implementing, and deploying SDN. Additionally, Wanderer will provide an overview of the value of SDN during his Global Open Networking and SDN Conference 2013 keynote, discussing networking challenges being addressed by the benefits of open SDN.
As co-chair of ONF’s Testing and Interoperability Working Group, Milford is helping the working group meet a common goal of accelerating the development and adoption of SDN and the OpenFlow® protocol. The group is ensuring standardized development through testing and certification, fostering interoperability among vendor implementations, and providing an industry-recognized certification for ONF compliance. During his session, he will discuss the importance of the working group and accomplishments made this year.
Lastly, Dustzadeh, ONF’s Migration Working Group Chair, will provide an overview of how this working group is helping enterprises and service providers migrate to SDN. During his presentation, he will discuss the goals, milestones, and use cases of the working group for which so many service providers and enterprises seek leadership from ONF.
