Google’s Inter-Datacenter WAN Using SDN and OpenFlow
Abstract
World-wide usage of services such as Google’s web search, email, YouTube, Google maps is growing exponentially. As a result, massive amount of data needs to be processed, stored and transported across the globe, imposing significant demands on the network. Traditional networks are too inflexible, static, and costly to scale and operate in this rapidly changing environment. A new architecture is needed, especially considering that the WAN bandwidth requirements are growing far faster than the IT budgets.
